Canuka Web Solutions employs a group of services resellers who connect us with potential customers. We work with the customer to determine their needs. Then we connect the customer with a freelance developer to create a website that’s just right for them.
We’re a full-service web development and hosting company that relies on the expertise and hard work of a team of talented freelance web developers to provide our services to our customers.
How does the job of the freelance web developer work?
Once we have a customer who’s ready to get started with developing a new website, we look for a developer capable of completing the project. This is done by reviewing the talents and abilities of our pool of developers to match the project with someone who has the particular skills necessary for the job.
Once we’ve found a developer who we think would be good for the job, we give them a call on the phone and tell them:
- Details about the project and its scope, such as number of pages and any special requirements the customer has.
- The deadline for the first draft and for the finished project.
- The “production rate” for the project, which is the amount that Canuka pays the web developer.
How does Canuka determine the production rates paid to its developers?
We don’t pay an hourly rate and our rates are not based on commission.
Instead, we have a proprietary system for determining the rate for every project. Depending on how quickly our developers work, they generally make anywhere from $10 to $30 per hour.
Before you ever start a project, we’ll quote you a rate up-front which you can either accept or turn down. If you turn it down because you don’t think it’s worth your time or because you simply haven’t got the time to do it, that’s okay. We’ll come back to you the next time we have something that we think is a good match for your abilities and talents.
The rate we pay you always includes revisions. We guarantee to our customers that if they are not completely satisfied with the appearance and functionality of their website, we will continue to work on it at no additional charge until it meets their expectations. In order to guarantee our customers satisfaction, we expect you to promise to perform any revisions requested, as long as they remain within the agreed-upon scope of the project.
What software or processes can Canuka web developers use?
Every developer has their own favourite tools and best practices that work well for them. We won’t tell you how to do your job. Our only requirement is that you create a website that the customer is happy with. We also ask that developers keep in mind that they might not be the person making changes when the customer decides they want to update their site. With this in mind, we encourage developers to keep their coding tidy and to create sites that can be as easily manipulated as possible.
Does Canuka provide web developers with templates?
Yes and no. We do have access to a collection of over 4,400 templates. You’re welcome to browse through them and if you find something you’d like to use, that’s fine by us. Just keep in mind that it’s all about serving the customer. Oftentimes the only way to do that is to start from scratch. That’s why we only contract web developers who have demonstrated their ability to create quality websites.
Why should I develop for Canuka if I can make more money by generating my own sales?
The Canuka concept is simple. Developers develop. Salespeople sell. Our services resellers, along with the Canuka customer relations team, take care of finding customers, showing them our services, answering questions, processing sales orders, collecting payment and following up on the sale. So when you develop for Canuka, developing is all you have to do. Canuka allows web developers to focus on putting their developing talents to work.
In the long run, many Canuka developers discover that they’re actually making more money by developing for Canuka because they don’t have to spend any time doing the administrative tasks associated with selling websites.
And of course, just because you develop for us doesn’t mean you can’t go after your own customers too!
As a developer, can I contact the client directly if I have questions?
You certainly can! When we hire you to complete a project, we’ll provide you with contact information for the client. If you have questions or need clarification, you can either contact Canuka, or you can contact the client directly.
How will I get paid and when are payments made?
When you register you can choose to either be paid by PayPal or by cheque. PayPal payments are made and cheques are written every two Fridays. You are entitled to be paid for the work you do once the customer has signed a Web Design Review and Approval Form indicating that they’re happy with the website and want it to be made live.
Note: Developers who operate businesses that pay and charge GST or HST simply add the tax to the Web Developer Invoice they submit when the project is complete.
How much work will be sent my way?
How much work you’ll get is determined by two things:
- How much work we have available that you’re qualified to do.
- Your availability and willingness to do the projects we offer you.
Typical Web Developer Production Rate
Scope of Project:
- Develop a template for a website for a small business.
- Adapt a hard-copy logo for use on the website.
- Insert content on each of the four pages, including text supplied by the client and stock images supplied by the web developer.
- Create a PHP web contact form to e-mail inquiries to the client.
Production Rate:
- $140.00
You might break that down like this:
- $70 to create or create or manipulate a template for the site, including logo work.
- $14 per page to insert content on each of the four pages.
- $14 to put a PHP contact form on the client’s Contact Us page.
If you're going to use templates and have a lot of web development experience, maybe you can create the framework for the site in a couple of hours, each of the pages content in an hour, and the form in one more hour. If so, your wage is $20/hour. If it takes you double that long, you’ve made $10/hour. If you can do it in half that time, you’ve made over $40/hour.
We’ll provide all of the content from the client, and we’ll give you contact information for the client in case you have any questions. You prepare a first draft. The client reviews it and requests any changes through us. Once the client is happy with it, your job is done.
You invoice us for the $140. We send you your payment.
